Okomu Oil Palm strengthens security collaboration after hoodlum attack

Following a recent attack on its facilities, Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc has collaborated with relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to book.

This was revealed by the company in a statement signed by Chukwuebuka Omerole, the Company Secretary, filed on the Nigeria Exchange on Thursday.

From the news gathered, four were injured, while three people were died, as hoodlums attacked the Okomu Oil Palm Company in Okomu-Udo, Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State during the week.

As of this notice, the intentions behind the attacks remain unclear. However, our company, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, is actively investigating the matter to ascertain the perpetrators’ motives and ensure that justice is served.

We assure you that the Okomu Oil Palm Company will continue to cooperate fully with relevant authorities and will provide updates on any significant developments about this matter. We thank you for your understanding and support,” Omerole maintained.

In February 2022, the firm suspended operations in the aftermath of what the management described as a ‘terrorist attack’.

This is not the first time the company premises have been attacked in Edo State.

For now, we are forced to shut down our operations to save lives from possible reprisal. We are already working with security agencies. For now, the army has taken over the security of the plantation. The company will remain closed until the security situation improves,” the firm’s Managing Director, Dr Graham Hefer, told the News Agency of Nigeria.
