The operating group under the banner of the Ilaje For Governorship Campaign has issued a plea to the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to address all conflicts stemming from the primary election held last Saturday.
It was reported that tensions have flared within the party following the governorship primary, which was held across the 18 state’s local government areas.
Lots of complains have been made by some candidates of the party, as regards to the conduct and outcome of the primary.
However, five candidates of the party have filed petitions with the APC Primary Election Committee, led by the former Bauchi State Governor, Mr Mohammed Abubakar.
These candidates include Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Mr Gbenga Edema, Mr Wale Akinterinwa, Jimi Odimayo, and Mrs Funke Omogoroye.
Wakadaily learnt that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa came out victorious in the primary election, gathered a total of 48,569 votes to defeat 15 other contenders.
The primary was overseen by the APC Primary Election Committee, which was led by Kogi State Governor, Mr Usman Ododo.
In a statement on Wednesday issued by the Convener of the group, Malumi Samuel, instructing the party’s leadership, as well as its members, especially the unsuccessful aspirants, to prioritize reconciliation and unity ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled for November this year.
Samuel stressed that the vital importance of presenting a united front in the forthcoming election, adding that a divided party would be detrimental to its chances.
He called on party members to come together and collaborate harmoniously.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, extending congratulations on his victory, the group adviced him to extend a hand of fellowship to all discontented aspirants and party members, both from the upcoming election and for the continued development of Ondo State.
In the statement, Samuel remarked, “This victory is a collective achievement; there are no losers here. Governor Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated himself as a unifier and a capable administrator.
“His triumph reflects the aspirations of party members, and it is imperative that we unite to fulfil our objectives in November.
“I am heartened by the transparent conduct of the primary election held to select our party’s gubernatorial candidate last Saturday. Even more commendable is the decorum exhibited by our members and party stakeholders.
