Ondo Assembly condemns attack legislator’s vehicle

Chief Olamide Oladiji of the Ondo State House of Assembly criticized an attack on Chris Ayebusiwa, the legislator for Okitipupa Constituency I, on Sunday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Ayebusiwa said on Saturday that some thugs had attacked his official GAC vehicle on Oba Adesida Road in Akure.

He added that during the incident, the driver and a security guard were among his three assistants who were in the car.

The Assembly criticized Ayebusiwa’s attack in a statement on Sunday.

The Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, was quoted in the statement signed by Chief Olatunji Oshati, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, characterizing the attack on Ayebusiwa as barbaric.

The Speaker voiced her disapproval of the trend and asked people to stop criticizing any organization.

He urged law enforcement to look into the situation in order to apprehend those responsible.

Oladiji expressed sympathy for Ayebusiwa over the incident and said that the attackers’ actions were inappropriate, pointing out that they may potentially upset the state’s current tranquility.

There have been instances of attacks on candidate billboards in Ondo State prior to the November 16, 2024, gubernatorial election.

Recently, the Speaker’s support of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s bid for governor divided the House, with several members turning away from him.

Nonetheless, there hasn’t been any opposition to the plan thus far when the Speaker and fifteen other legislators again approved Aiyedatiwa in Abuja last week.
