Ondo PDP, gov candidate clash over campaign council

Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo state, crisis is brewing in the People’s Democratic Party over the Constitution of campaign council for the governorship candidate, Hon Agboola Ajayi.

A statement by the spokesperson for the governorship candidate, Sam Ogunmusi Ajayi, announced the appointment of Dr Eddy Olafeso, as the Chairman of its Campaign Council.

But the party, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Kennedy Peretei, countered Ajayi, rejecting his campaign council.

Peretei said, “The announcement by one Samuel Ogunmusi appointing persons to coordinate the campaigns of H.E. Agboola Ajayi for the November election is not only embarrassing but a violation of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended).

“Articles 46(1) and 40(1)(a)(b) and (c) do not permit such announcement coming from individuals not known to the party. To such an extent, all the supposed announcements are null, void and of no effect.

“Our party is an organised party and guided by the rule of law. At the appropriate time, appointments for the local campaign council will be made public.”

Ajayi, the ex-deputy governor to Rotimi Akeredolu, the late governor, will be facing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress, who was also Akeredolu’s deputy until December last year when Akeredolu passed on.
