The death of Mr. Alaba Abe, a ward campaign organizer for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was announced as the subject of an investigation by the Ondo State Police Command on Sunday.
During the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Ondo State last Saturday, which Aiyedatiwa won, the late Abe was one of the campaign organizers for Aiyedatiwa.
Abe, also known by his alias Excel, was allegedly shot and killed on Saturday night in Supare Akoko, Akoko South-West Area of the state.
This incident occurred just one week after the APC conducted its governorship primary throughout the state’s eighteen local government districts.
The deceased individual was reportedly the Returning Officer for the party’s primary in the council district’s Ward 10.
It was reported that deceased was killed on Saturday night in front of his Supare Akoko home at approximately nine o’clock in the evening.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, acknowledged the event when reached on Sunday and stated that an investigation had been started by the command.
“The command is aware of the incident at Supare; an investigation is ongoing to determine all that transpired,” stated the PPRO.
The Foot Soldiers Independent Council of the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization condemned the event and urged the state’s security services to look into it and apprehend those responsible in a statement released on Sunday.
Mr. David Ajobiewe, the Director-General for Local Government at Akoko South-West for the LACO-FSIC, called the event “a rude shock.”
“Excel had been a resourceful coordinator for the Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation in Ward 10 of Supare and was never known to be violent and never had any history of local or domestic disputes.
“We urge the police authorities to step up investigations into his gruesome murder and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book,” Ajobiewe said.
Additionally, Mr. Alex Kalejaiye, the Ondo APC Publicity Secretary, called the occurrence regrettable and depressing.
“It is very sad and unfortunate that one of our party men was killed but we only read about it on social media.
“The party can’t make any statement until it is properly briefed by the chairman of the local government of the deceased. We can’t be reacting to social media information,” Kalejaiye said.
