Organisers charge fans $680 to see Messi in China

According to organizers, tickets for Chinese football fans to watch Lionel Messi lead Argentina against Australia in a Beijing friendly will cost up to $680.

The match between Argentina and Australia from the Qatar World Cup’s round of 16 will be repeated on June 15 at the 68,000-seat Workers’ Stadium.

Messi, is scheduled to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer, scored in a 2-1 win for Argentina and they went on to lift the World Cup.

The organiser noted that tickets ranging from 580 yuan ($82) to 4,800 yuan will go on sale in two batches, on June 5 and June 8.

Fans who were not happy with the prices for the exhibition game promptly complained online.

Someone wrote on the organiser’s Twitter account, “I’m reporting you for robbery.”

Another user wrote, “For 4,800, will Messi carry us on his back while he plays?”

It will be the Argentina player’s first visit to China since 2017.
