Over 300 amateur athlete to be featured in Surulere marathon

The Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State, will be partnering with the UB40 Sports Marketing and Starlite Sports Marketing, as they planned to hold a 10km marathon and funfair, On August 17.

These events are tagged ‘’LERE FUNATHON’, to encourage the vibrant socio-economic environment and energetic display of the love sports by the people of the area, which is home to two stadium built to host international sporting events.

The marathon is expected to feature at least 300 amateurs runners, including entry categories ranging from children to adult, while the funfair will serve as the entertaining climax to wrap up the event.

Sulaimon Yusuf, the Chairman of Surulere Local Government, stated that “This is an administration that partners with notable ideas that will benefit the people of Surulere. We have our blueprint and that doesn’t mean we won’t embrace other ideas if we believe they will bring development and progress within Surulere.

“This is the first edition and it will not be the last, just as we have other sporting activities, which we are going to tag Surulere Sports Festival.”

Olusola Lawson, the CEO of UB40 Sports Marketing, stated that the event would align with the global best practices of the World Athletics,  he added that they are also working with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria to put the marathon together.

“It’s a fun run and there will be attractive prizes. We will do everything to make sure that whatever our successes are this year, we will surpass them in subsequent editions. It’s a 10km event, a format widely embraced worldwide. We deliberately chose this distance to align with global marathon standards,” Lawson said.
