Oyo Commissioner Advises Young People To Avoid Drug Abuse And Embrace Education

Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, urged youths to avoid drug abuse and social vices, emphasizing their potential to hinder a successful and fulfilling life.

He made this appeal during a Children’s Day event organized by a non-governmental organization founded by Mrs. Ramota Agberemi-Dabo, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on local government and chieftaincy matters.

The event, held at the Akinyele Local Government Secretariat, brought together over 100 students from 22 selected government and private secondary schools in Ibadan.

Oyelade warned the students about the dangers of drug abuse, stressing that it can cut short their vision for a great life and a brighter future.

He also advised them to explore various career paths and not solely focus on politics for success, as many professionals outside the political arena lead happier and more content lives.

Additionally, he cautioned the youths against being swayed by digital innovations, which can distract them from their goals and aspirations.

He stated, “You can excel and be more successful and contented than the politician, provided you abstain from drug abuse and other emerging social vices.”

Initially, Agberemi-Dabo motivated the students to stay dedicated to their education, emphasizing how academic success brings pride and joy to their parents. She also shared her commitment to grooming future leaders from a young age, aiming to motivate them to strive for excellence.

“The Children’s Day programme highlights the commitment of Oyo State’s government and non-governmental organisations to the well-being and future success of its youth, promoting a message of education and a drug-free lifestyle as cornerstones of a promising future,” she stated.
