Confusion erupted on Sunday when a United Nigeria Airline flight NUA0504, from Lagos to Abuja was diverted to Asaba International Airport in Delta State.

The development was due to unfavourable destination weather in the nation’s capital.

One of the passengers, @dawisu, took to his  X page to call out the airline, lamenting that, despite knowing that the flight was diverted, the cabin crew announced that they were about landing in Abuja.

He said: “We boarded a flight to Abuja and the flight carry us to Asaba. They even announced, ‘we’re about to land at Abuja Airport’ Then boom! We are seeing Asaba Airport. United Nigeria Airline is just an anyhow airline.”

Another passenger, who is the former media aide to Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, Salihu ‘Dawisu’ Tanko Yakasai, said the crew had announced that they landed in Asaba, when they were actually in Asaba.

“Nigeria my country. We departed Lagos about an hour ago on @flyunitedng to Abuja, and upon arrival, the cabin crew confidently announced that we’ve arrived Abuja, only for us to realize that we landed in Asaba. Apparently, our pilot was given wrong flight plan from Lagos,” he wrote.

Reacting to the development, the airline in a statement stated that the diversion was due to “poor destination weather.”

“At all material time, the Pilot of the aircraft was aware of the temporary diversion and was properly briefed,” the airline said.
