During a recent medical outreach organized by the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, Kwara branch, in Bode-Saadu, located in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, over 200 vulnerable individuals were provided with complimentary malaria treatment.
Mrs. Munirat Bello, the Chairperson of the association in Kwara, relayed this information on Monday, highlighting that the initiative coincided with the celebration of World Malaria Day in 2024. World Malaria Day, observed annually on April 25, serves as a global platform to acknowledge and support the ongoing worldwide efforts to combat malaria.
The theme for the 2024 World Malaria Day edition is ‘Accelerating the Fight Against Malaria for a More Equitable World’.
Bello emphasized that the outreach program catered to a diverse group of beneficiaries, comprising both adults and children, who received essential services such as free treatment using recommended Artemisinin-based combination therapies drugs, deworming procedures, and counseling sessions.
The comprehensive nature of the outreach underscores the commitment of the association to extend critical healthcare support to underserved communities and contribute to the collective goal of eradicating malaria and promoting health equity across the region.
He stated, “Malaria has serious health challenges for the nation. The outreach was part of ACPN’s commitment to reducing the malaria impact.
“The most vulnerable people include pregnant women, infants and children less than five years of age.”
In order to deter mosquitoes from breeding, she suggested that inhabitants utilize insecticidal-treated nets and maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.
During his address, the Daudu of Bode-Saadu, Alhaji Aliu Gambari, expressed his appreciation to the pharmacists for their timely health intervention and implored them to continue providing crucial health services to the community without interruption.
