Plateau Seeks Private Sector Help To End Open Defecation

As part of a comprehensive strategy to eradicate open defecation, the Plateau State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) is seeking collaboration with the private sector to construct public toilets in strategic locations.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Jos, PEPSA’s Director General, Mr. Samuel Dapiya, emphasized the importance of private sector involvement in building standard toilets as a corporate social responsibility initiative.

This collaborative effort will not only help reduce the prevalence of open defecation but also complement government efforts to promote good hygiene practices and sanitation in the state.

Dapiya urged private business investors to establish more public toilets in strategic areas, highlighting the potential for this venture to generate revenue for both investors and the state government.

By working together, PEPSA aims to create a cleaner, healthier environment for citizens and promote sustainable sanitation practices in Plateau State.

He noted, “I enjoin public toilet operators to collaborate with the government to curb the menace of open defecation by establishing toilets inaccessible locations and operating according to the required standard.”

The Director General of PEPSA highlighted the agency’s initiatives to combat open defecation, including the ongoing construction of public toilets in key locations such as the City Centre, Terminus, and the newly relocated street traders’ market.

He praised the Governor Caleb Mutfwang-led administration for its commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of citizens by creating a clean and sanitary environment, demonstrating a prioritization of public health.
