Protest in Abia over continued detention of doctor after kidnappers collect ransome

Women of the Ahia Asa, took to the streets to protest over the continued detention of their son, Prof. Uwadinachi Iweha, in Umuopara clan,  Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, on Tuesday.

Iweha, who is the Provost, College of Medicine, Gregory University Uturu, was abducted in front of his house on Sunday, June 5, 2022.

The woman leader of the women, Mrs Sally Ukauwa, represented by Dame Victory Asomugha, said they were not happy their son was abducted for this long and nothing has been heard from him to date.

“Our son left his house to worship God, they called him from the church, he went back home and to date, we have not seen him. We want him back, is our son we are proud of. We are also calling on government and security agencies to expedient action for his release,” she stated.

The wife of the abducted don, Mrs Ngozi Iweha, said the abduction took place in front of their house at Ezeleke, Umuopara on his return from church.

“We are traumatised, these two months are like a hell for all of us. We are pleading with those holding him to release him alive for us and we are also begging the government and security agencies to ensure his release from his abductors,” she said.

Addressing the women at his palace, the traditional ruler of Ezeleke Autonomous community, Umuopara, Eze Godfrey Ibekanma, said that the 14 autonomous communities of Umuopara were united in their protest and demand for the release of Iweha.”
