Reactions as Lagos govt approves mass burial of 103 victims killed during EndSARS protest

The Lagos State government allegedly approved N6 million for a mass burial of 103 people killed during the EndSARS protest in Lagos on 20th October, 2020.

Recall that the Lagos government earlier claimed that no death was recorded at Lekki toll gate during the protest.

However, in a letter which emanated from the state’s Public Procurement Agency and dated 19th July 2023 shows that governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved N6 million for a mass burial.

Lagos statement on mass burial for EndSARS victims

Many people has taken to Twitter to drag the governor for earlier denying that people were killed during the peaceful protest.

AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore said: “The govt of Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari denied killing #EndSARS protesters in October of 2020, we’ve always maintained that they massacred protesters and hid their bodies across Lagos state. Here is a legit document of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu of Lagos contracted..

But here is a contract document, for the mass burial of 103 Endsars victims, killed during the 20-10-20 protest. https://t.co/qLaQWwZWI0

TOS Funerals Limited is a privately owned and family-run funeral business, established by Mrs Taiwo Ogunsola in Lagos.
Lagos state govt @followlasg took the bodies of slain Lekki tollgate #Endsars protesters to secretly hide in that morgue for almost 3 years, then lied to us.”

@Jaypee said: “Nigeria youths were killed at the Lekki Tollgate on 20-10-2020, but Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu lied on CNN and claimed that no dead body was found at the Tollgate. Now, here is an evidence from Lagos State Government showing that 103 people died during #EndSars! And no justice has been served.”

@Sarah Ibrahim said: “I need @jidesanwoolu and whoever runs the Lagos Govt @followlasg to explain this official document signed by Onafowote Idowu the DG PPA Lagos.

103 Dead Bodies to be buried by TOS Funerals on a Mass Grave?
#EndSARS victims was actually written on it. Is this for real?

@General Oluchi wrote: “The 103 dead bodies of #Endsars protesters that the Lagos State Government want to bury in a mass grave is a subtle threat to Nigerians watching the Judiciary.

They are indirectly showing us what they are capable of — killing innocent people and hiding their bodies for years.”
