The National Emergency Management Agency and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation were strongly encouraged by the House of Representatives on Tuesday to supply relief supplies to the Kaduna State gunmen assault victims on Sunday.
The lawmakers also requested an investigation into the killings from the chiefs of various security services, the Department of State Services, and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
According to reports, six people were slain on Sunday in Ambe, a community in Kaduna State’s Sanga Local Government Area’s Arak chiefdom.
Amos Daniel, the member representing Jemaa/Sanga Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, briefed the House about the attack during the resumption of session on Tuesday. The motion was on subjects of urgent public interest.
Daniel said, “At about 7 pm on Sunday, May 5, 2024, in Ambe on the outskirts of Gwantu, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following the attack from two unknown gunmen who arrived on two motorcycles at the birthday celebration venue of their aged father, killed six people and injured many.”
The legislator added that some of the attack victims were currently receiving treatment at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital and that local youths mustered the courage to capture one of the attackers with his motorcycle and rifle and subsequently turn him over to troops on duty.
The legislator from the Peoples Democratic Party stated before the House that the incident traumatized the locals and prevented them from going about their everyday lives out of fear of what might happen.
The House called on the Inspector General to send extra police officers to secure the area and observed a minute of silence in memory of the deceased after the resolution was adopted.
It also encouraged the DSS, the military, and the Inspector General to take all necessary steps to guarantee that the offenders were apprehended and held accountable.
To ensure compliance, the House also gave its Committees on Police, Army, and Emergency and Disaster Preparedness additional mandates.
