According to Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Institute of Architects, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, and his counterpart, Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State are expected to join in order to discuss environmental sustainability at the institute’s annual conference.

David Majekodunmi, the Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, disclosed this during a press conference held in Lagos to herald the 15th edition of LAF.

The event will hold between May 8 and May 11, 2024 at the Balmoral Convention Centre at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja.

David said, articulating ways to help Lagos State cope with challenges like flooding, rapid, and infrastructure strain due to climate change will constitute the focal point of this year’s Lagos Architect Forum.

He said, “It’s about understanding its strategies for sustainable development, such as green infrastructure, coastal protection, and community engagement to build resilience against future climate impacts.

Lagos faces numerous challenges, but it’s also implementing innovative approaches to enhance its resilience and adapt to climate change.”

Other prominent names expected at the event include Environmental Activist, Desmond Majekodunmi; a former Attorney General of Lagos, Olasupo Shashore; and Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, among others.

Nigeria’s most populous city has been plagued by problems such as air pollution, water pollution, solid waste management, urban poverty, deforestation, desertification, wind erosion, and flooding increase, causing more risk to the environment and the population.
