Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other market operators, organized a series of engaging events aimed at promoting financial literacy and empowering retail investors through education.
That was part of activities that took place during the global IOSCO World Investor Week, which took place from October 7 to 13.
In a series of events, including a financial literacy seminar at Pan-Atlantic University and the NGX Retail Investor Clinic, SEC and NGX engaged participants on investing fundamentals, capital market strategies, and the growing role of technology and sustainability in modern finance.
Emomotimi Agama, the Director-General of SEC, explained the need for investor protection, saying, “Our mission is to safeguard investor interests while promoting informed participation.”
Meanwhile, Temi Popoola, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NGX, emphasized the importance of technology in finance, noting that the organisation is committed to using technology to drive sustainable finance and innovation.
The Chief Executive Officer of NGX, Jude Chiemeka, also underscored the role of education in building a secure investment environment, noting, “By equipping individuals with the right tools, we’re building a more secure and resilient investment ecosystem.”
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of NGX RegCo, Femi Shobanjo, stated that a self-regulatory mandate is essential in maintaining trust and integrity within the market.
Adedayo Hamzat, the Group Managing Director of Zedcrest Group, encouraged investors to embrace technological advancements, as technology-driven portfolio diversification is key to achieving long-term financial goals.
