Simi did not initially have a liking for her popular song “Joromi” from her album Simisola, released in 2017. However, in a recent CNN interview, the Afrobeats sensation revealed that she felt annoyed at the time but had to compose the song due to a time constraint.
During the interview with CNN, she discussed the source of her musical inspiration. Surprisingly, she admitted that there are instances when she lacks any inspiration.
“Sometimes I don’t have any inspiration but I have a deadline. I don’t really like those, because you know you have to force it to come. And I’m not crazy about those,” she said. “I’ve made like really great songs from those. ‘Joromi’ was one of those,” she stated.
She stated that while working on “Joromi,” she believed she had completed writing all the songs for the album. However, the team unexpectedly provided her with the beat, prompting her to compose a new song for it.
“‘Joromi’ was a deadline song. I was even done. They sent me a beat and I was like I’m done writing,” she explain. “I wrote like five different songs on that beat that I didn’t like and then ‘Joromi’ came but it was like a deadline song,” she added.
Despite expressing annoyance at the moment, she currently feels pleased about having written it.
“I didn’t even want to write the song. I was just irritated. But I’m glad that I did,” she stated.
The video Joromi has gained about 19 million view on the YouTube.
