Stop doing drugs’ – Naira Marley warns fans after joining NDLEA campaign, Netizens reacts

Afrobeat singer, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has admonished his fans and Nigerian youths to stop doing drugs.

The singer advised his fans popularly known as ‘Marlians’ to stop drug abuse adding that the substance are not healthy and can lead individuals to crimes.

The ‘Opotoyi’ crooner made the appeal on Thursday after joining the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in their campaign against drug abuse, War Against Drug Abuse (WADA).

Naira Marley said: “I will like to urge my fans, the Marlians, all Nigerian youths to stop doing drugs because it is not good for your wellbeing, let’s all stop substance abuse in every form, I have keyed into this campaign to support NDLEA to stop drugs in the streets. Please join us. It is really not good; it makes you go back into crime, It does a lot of thing to you. Thank you very much”.

The agency also shared photos of Marley with its chairman/chief executive officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, at the headquarters in Abuja via its official X platform (formerly known as Twitter).

The post has since generated massive reactions from tweeter users who were shocked to see the singer who is always smoking and videoing himself on social media to be an advocate for drug abuse.

Reacting, Ossai Ovie Success, an aide to former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, vowed to sue NDLEA if Naira Marley is seen smoking again.

Ovie wrote, “I will sue NDLEA if I see Nairamarley  sm*king on his music video or on ground and if any of artistes signed to his record label are seen smoking.

“I hope @officialnairam1 has stopped smoking before being paid by NDLEA to campaign against smoking and drugs. I am watching him carefully because I am happy with this campaign.”

Also reacting is Nigerian actress turned politician, Tonto Dikeh. The mother of one described the agency as the ‘most unserious set of folks’, vowing to unfollow them immediately.

The actress wrote: “I don’t involve myself in bullshit, especially other people’s bullshit. This I must say is the biggest embarrassment from any government agency/drug law enforcement agency.

“I wld like to say more but I’ll wait for @ndlea_nigeria to pick me up for an interview/Drug test/ or just a chat on why I’m bold enough to call them out!!!!

“Sirs/ma’s I’M READY. You know my address, I’ll ask you do it respectfully otherwise we’ll have a PROBLEM….. And if I’m replied I’ll gladly respond disrespectfully…… I have absolutely nothing wrong on the said artist but the government.”

Recall that that Tonto Dikeh had signified interest to work with the agency several months ago in a social media post where she expressed her willingness to avail herself for a drug test.
