The Nollywood industry experienced a great loss on April 10th when the renowned Nollywood icon Junior Pope passed away, causing deep sorrow among the industry.
The skilled actor tragically died in a boating incident, which deeply saddened the entertainment industry.
Actress Iyabo Ojo expressed her sorrow on Instagram, describing the news of Junior Pope’s death as devastating and heart-wrenching.
Iyabo Ojo also stated the unfortunate deaths of the other young individuals who were on the boat with Junior Pope, expressing her sadness at their untimely passing.
Towards the end of her post, Iyabo Ojo expressed concern about the high number of actors dying in the Nigerian film industry, suggesting that her analysis might be accurate.
Within the first four months of 2024, Nollywood has already announced the deaths of at least four actors who have all made significant contributions to the movie industry.
In March, Nollywood and the entire country of Nigeria mourned the loss of John Okafor, also known as Mr Ibu. Later that same month, Amaechi Muonagor also passed away due to illness, similar to Mr Ibu.
This April began with a tragic event, as Nollywood suffered another loss, this time with the passing of actress Aderounmu Adejumoke.
The death of Junior Pope on April 10th was particularly shocking due to the circumstances surrounding it.
Initially, videos circulated suggesting that he had passed away, but it was later confirmed that he was alive after receiving treatment from a traditional healer.
Unfortunately, the relief was short-lived, as he ultimately lost his life after a battle in the hospital.
Junior Pope leaves behind his wife and three young sons, who have not yet made any public statements about his death.
