Yomi Fabiyi, a Nollywood actor, has provided an update on the ongoing legal proceedings involving Baba Ijesha, a Yoruba actor facing charges of raping a minor who happens to be the adopted daughter of comedian Princess.
In a recent interview, Fabiyi stated that Baba Ijesha’s appeal process is still in progress in court.
He argued that there was no evidence to prove that he had engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim, which is why the judge did not sentence him to life imprisonment.
Yomi claimed that Princess had invited Baba Ijesha to participate in a comedy sketch, and the girl herself confirmed this in court.
Yomi also stated that the man who had engaged in sexual activity with the girl was not facing any consequences, and disputed the widely believed age of the girl being 14.
“Baba Ijesha’s appeal process is still ongoing in court. There was no evidence that he slept with the girl; that was why the judge didn’t sentence him to life imprisonment. He was called by Princess to shoot a skit, and the girl also said in court that she was called to shoot a skit. The person who actually slept with the girl is walking freely. The girl’s age is not 14. They never gave the court her birth certificate. We are waiting for the appeal court judgement”.
In 2022, Baba Ijesha was sentenced to 5 years in prison for raping the 14-year-old daughter of comedian Princess.
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo delivered a two-hour judgment, finding Baba Ijesha guilty of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault.
However, he was acquitted of two charges. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison, but will serve only 5 years consecutively.
Yomi Fabiyi, who was present in the courtroom, argued for Baba Ijesha’s right to appeal and stated that he should be allowed to challenge the court’s ruling until he had exhausted all options.
Fabiyi also called for Princess to be punished for parental negligence. In October 2022, Fabiyi celebrated Baba Ijesha’s birthday on Instagram, sharing a photo of him with a heartfelt caption and prayer.
