More than 30 million users have downloaded and signed up for Threads, Meta’s rival to Twitter, which was launched early hours of today.

The micro-blogging app went live on Apple and Android app stores in 100 countries at 2300 GMT on Wednesday and will run with no ads for now, but its release in Europe has been delayed over data privacy concerns.

The company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg who has been posting about his new platform subscribers, via his official Threads account earlier wrote: “Let’s do this. Welcome to Threads.”

In another post Mark wrote: “Glad you’re all here on day one. Let’s build something great together!”

Celebrating his new subscribers, Meta founder wrote: “Wow, 30 million sign ups as of this morning. Feels like the beginning of something special, but we’ve got a lot of work ahead to build out the app.”

The biggest threat to Elon Musk-owned Twitter so far is Threads, which has seen a number of prospective rivals emerge but hasn’t yet succeeded in dislodging one of the biggest social networking networks in the world.
