At YarGwanda Village, in Tsanyawa Local Government Area in Kano state, the Kano Fire Service, has confirmed a 60-year old man, Malam Danjuma, popularly known as Black in his area, his 35 year old son Ibrahim and one 35 year old Aminu Gaye, died while trying to recover a cellphone from a pit toilet, on Monday.
This tragedy was confirmed in a press statement and issued on Sunday, by the spokesperson for the Kano Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi.
He stated that one Abba Alasan, 28, was rescued alive from the tragedy.
The statement read, “We received an emergency call from Tsanyawa Fire Station at about 11:00 a.m. from one Aminu Yar’gwanda, that four men were trapped inside a pit toilet while attempting to help each other.
“We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 11:15 a.m.
“Danjuma was trying to retrieve a cell phone that fell into the pit toilet when he got trapped. Thereafter, his son entered the pit toilet to save his father and also got trapped.
“Gaye and Alasan also entered the toilet to rescue both men and also got trapped, in the process,” he said.
As claimed by Abdullahi, the first three victims were unconscious while the fourth victim was still alive.
He said all the victims were handed over to the Superintendent of Police, Iro Lado, at the Tsanyawa police division.
Abdullahi, stated that the police conveyed the victims to Bichi Special Hospital for medical attention where doctors on duty confirmed the three dead and one alive.
