President Bola Tinubu condemned the kidnapping of students in Kaduna State and some internally displaced people in Borno State.
Tinubu has ordered security and intelligence services to save the victims right away and see to it that the offenders face justice.
Ajuri Ngelale, his Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, signed a statement that included this information, which was posted on his Facebook page on Friday.
In the statement, Tinubu was quoted as saying, “I have received briefing from security chiefs on the two incidents, and I am confident that the victims will be rescued.
“Nothing else is acceptable to me and the waiting family members of these abducted citizens. Justice will be decisively administered.”
Tinubu sympathises with the families of the victims, assuring them that they will soon be reunited with their loved ones.
Following the abduction, ActionAid Nigeria has condemned the babaric act leading to the kidnapping of Internally Displaced Persons in the Gambarou-Ngala area of Borno State and pupils and teachers of LEA Primary School at Kuriga, Kaduna State.
Over 280 pupils and teachers of Government Secondary School and LEA Primary School at Kuriga, Kaduna State, were abducted by unknown gun men on Thursday.
According to a statement released by AAN’s Country Director, Andrew Mamedu, the kidnappings were similar to that of the Chibok and Dapchi girls, and each day that goes by without action brings the nation one step closer to experiencing the devastating results of those earlier incidents.
“We vehemently condemn these brazen acts of terror on innocent civilians, which tragically mirror past atrocities such as the abductions of the Chibok and Dapchi girls.
“We call on the Kaduna and Borno State Governments and the Federal Government of Nigeria to prioritise the urgent rescue of the abducted IDPs and ensure their safe return to their families.
“Every passing moment without action brings us closer to a repeat of the tragic outcomes witnessed in previous abductions. It is absurd and unacceptable that over 200 Nigerians in Borno State have been kidnapped since February 29 without any decisive action being taken to rescue them and that scores of children were abducted in Kaduna State just a few days later. We refuse to tolerate the same failures and slow progress in rescuing our abducted compatriots,” he said.
In addition, the group urged security forces to learn from their past transgressions and act decisively to protect the abductees from harm while demanding accountability and justice for all the victims of the kidnappings.
It also emphasised how urgently the government must give the Safe Schools Initiative, which federal and state schools pledged to implement, top priority, pointing out that insecurity “has contributed to the current 20 million children who are out of school, and the Safe Schools Initiative aims to address these challenges and ensure a safe learning environment for all children in Nigeria”.
The Country Director emphasized that it was the responsibility of the government to make sure that security services rescued the abductees without any delay.
“Their lives and well-being must be the top priority of the states and federal government at this time. ActionAid Nigeria also calls upon the international community, civil society organisations, and all stakeholders to join us in advocating for the immediate and safe rescue of the abducted IDPs and kidnapped pupils,” he stated.
