Tinubu promises 12m families N8,000 for 6 months, Nigerians react

President Bola Tinubu said about 18 million households will get N8,000 over a period of six months to lessen the suffering that Nigerians are experiencing as a result of subsidy removal.

This is contained in a letter to the House of Representatives read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during plenary on Thursday.

Tinubu said it was designed to enable indigent and vulnerable Nigerian people to cope with the cost of meeting basic needs.

The letter waiting for approval of additional financing for the national social safety net programme scaled up by the National Assembly.

The President said this would have a multiplier effect on about 60 million individuals.

In order to ascertain the credibility of the process, he said digital transfers would be made directly to beneficiaries’ accounts.”

This didn’t set well with some Nigerians as they took to social media to advice the president on the best way to reduce hardship in the country.

Olusegun wrote, “Why not instead use the fund to cushion the effect of the subsidy where most people can benefits. Incentivize basic food farmers and suppliers so that the price of food would not go up and at least people would be able to afford food.”

Lacon Pr said: “I hope this is not true .

If its true then its totally waste of funds…
I Can bet it that gov, rep nd LG chairmen will hoard it like COVID time. Like I said FG should focus on either transportation or power .. Where everyone will benefit.”

Owosh Daniel wrote: “Those of you who brought APC back to Power, pls what do you gain now?

This people this system of government is their style, nothing can change it. Leadership is not about it’s my time, it’s about who capable of doing it!
They keep enriching themselves.”
