Tinubu suspends VAT on diesel for six months

President Bola Tinubu says it will waive the Value Added Tax (VAT) on Automotive Gas Oil, popularly known as diesel for the next six months.

The waiver is part of the deal reached between the Federal government and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the end of the meeting on Sunday.

The development comes amid the rising cost of diesel, which jumped from 600/per litre to N1000/ per litre.

The federal government also reiterated its commitment to providing micro and small-scale enterprises funds.

Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation disclosed this shortly after the meeting with the organized labour.

He said, “The Federal Government also committed to providing funds for micro and small-scale enterprises and waivers on VAT on diesel for the next six months”.
