On Saturday, one person was Confirmed Dead by the National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA) as a Three Storey Building Collapse in The Lagos Island.
The Building Collapse During the Heavy downpour that occurred in Lagos on Saturday afternoon.
According to the NEMA spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye, Two was Confirmed Dead while three of the Victims have been. rescued Alive from the Building which was under construction.
Ibrahim Farinloye said, “A 2 storey building under construction has just collapsed under the torrential rainfall at Freeman Road, Lagos Island. Three rescued alive and two dead. Responders are on the way.”
He stated further, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and fire service are on ground to Perform their Duties.
LEADERSHIP Reported, that Lagos State has recorded About three incidents of building collapse in Recent Months with 15 lives lost Across the Area of Yaba, Ebute-Metta and Okota.
On 1st of May, 2022, a three-storey building collapsed in the Area of Ebute Metta which Left at least 10 persons dead.
After The Incident, The Lagos State Government Ordered the Immediate obstruction of approval for structures that’s above three floors in the Areas of Ebute-Metta East and West.
“The Topography and Soil, and the Low Water level and effects, as well as the insufficiency of building in this area to bear loads above three floors, were considered in arriving at this decision,” Salako said.
“The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority has been directed to stop taking applications for approval of Buildings that’s above three floors in that area”.
“To guarantee the safety of lives and property by ensuring that we put a halt to lives being cut short by incidents of building collapse, the government has been compelled to invoke the relevant sections of the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2019, as amended, to address the crisis,” Lagos Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako, had said in a statement on Wednesday, May 11.
