Two million Delta residents partakes in health insurance scheme

Two million people have signed up for the state’s health insurance program in less than seven years, according to the Delta State government.

Onicha-Olona, in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, is where 100 enrollees received health insurance cards on Monday. Dr. Isaac Okpoveta, the Director General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, made this statement.

He said, “I am immensely delighted to stand before you all today as we gather to celebrate the remarkable generosity and compassion of the Oganishu Umu Ogbekenu Foundation, which has set a shining example for all to follow.

“The foundation purchased health insurance for 100 vulnerable individuals in the community in response to the clarion call of the DSCHC to all people of goodwill to key into the Indigent enrollee adoption initiative of the commission..

“This is not just an act of charity; it is a demonstration of profound empathy and a tangible commitment to the well-being of our people.

“Today, through these initiatives, we have been able to significantly increase healthcare coverage and improve health outcomes for our people.

“As of the end of March 2024, our enrolment statistics stand at two million people have been insured. This figure is a testament to the trust and confidence that the people of Delta State have placed in our commission and its programmes.

“Healthcare should not be a luxury reserved for the privileged few; it is a fundamental human right that must be guaranteed to all.”

Okpoveta lauded the foundation for acquiring health insurance for the community’s most vulnerable members, pointing out that the foundation had shown that it understood the fundamentals of the plan.

He claimed that for just N7,000, a person could get a health insurance card that would allow them to receive year-round access to high-quality medical care.
