Two people died in Ogun state cult clash

Two individuals identify as Sanni Ibrahim and Azeez Bada, have been confirmed dead in a suspected clash between two cult groups in Igbesa area in Ogun State on Monday.

From the news gathered, a fight broke out around 9pm when a group of boys about 20 people began to chase one another with dangerous weapon such as cutlasses and guns in the society.

We was learnt that this threw the residents into a state of confusion as they ran in search of a safe place.

Those returning  from work were stranded midway after they were informed of the violent clash.

Wakadaily learnt that Ibrahim was suspected to be a member of one of the cult groups, who was macheted to death right in front of his mother’s house.

Also, Bada an 18-year-old boy sustained a severe gunshot wound and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, Bada was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty few minutes later.

According to the report, “It was a terrifying moment. Everyone was running for safety when these young guys started chasing each other with weapons. One of them was killed in front of his mother’s house here in the community. Another one later died of a gunshot wound.”

Omolola Odutola, the state Police Public Relations Officers, who confirmed the incident, said one of the victims (Ibrahim) had allegedly participated in the killing of another suspect in 2022 and fled after committing the crime on Tuesday.

She said, “Sanni Ibrahim, who was allegedly killed, had been a subject of interest. Our preliminary investigation showed that he had allegedly participated in the killing of one person in the area in 2022. He absconded from the community after committing the crime.

The family members of the second deceased person didn’t allow the police to take the corpse to the mortuary. They insisted that they wanted to bury their child.

We have begun an operation to track down members of the cult groups involved in the incident.”

Also cult clashes in the Sagamu area of the state reportedly led to the deaths of eight people in 2023.
