Vehicles collision: 20 burnt to death, 2 injured in Oyo

No fewer than 20 passengers were reportedly burnt to death while two other sustained severe injuries as a result of vehicles collision along Maya junction in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Wakadaily gathered that the accident which involved a commercial bus and a Sienna car occurred on Friday afternoon.

A source said the incident was as a result of vehicles collision which led to fire outbreak that burnt 20 persons beyond recognition, and only two passengers survived the incident.

The Chairman of the Local Government, Gbenga Obalowo who confirmed the incident, immediately led a rescue team to the scene and described it as pathetic and unfortunate.

Obalowo said, “It was a fatal accident hence it was a gory sight. We counted over twenty human bodies burnt completely.

“I learnt they had a head on collision and the two vehicles, a commercial bus and a Sienna which was also conveying passengers caught fire and got burnt beyond repair.

“Our drivers need to avoid over speeding. They should consider other road users and avoid reckless driving.”

“He therefore sympathized with the families of the victims, and disclosed that the two survivors were currently receiving medical attention at Awojobi Hospital in Eruwa, while the corpses of other passengers have been deposited at a morgue.”
