Nigerian celebrity stylist and designer Toyin Lawani, who is part of Tiannah Empire, has slammed the African Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) for not having a theme for their event each year.
In anticipation of the upcoming award show, she pointed out that AMVCA has never announced a theme, questioning why people should adhere to a specific dress code when there is no theme provided.
Tiannah emphasized that AMVCA is the most prominent creative award show in Nigeria, and she believes that actresses and artists should take the opportunity to express themselves and stand out during the ceremony.
She highlighted that some individuals conform to societal expectations, while others choose to be more unconventional.
Tiannah suggested that until AMVCA establishes an annual theme, everyone should continue to enjoy themselves at the show and express their personal style.
She wished everyone the best and expressed her excitement to see the amazing looks on the red carpet.
“AMVCA has never declared a theme for their event, so why do you feel people shouldn’t dress how they like??
Amvca Awards is our biggest creative award show in Nigeria, and I feel our actresses/artists, Take this moment to express yourself and stand out, Some conform to what’s expected of them as per societal norms, and some go out of the box, So I feel until Amvca starts giving us a theme to adhere to yearly,
Everyone should continue to have fun at the show and express themselves.
I wish you all the best of luck,
Looking forward to all the amazing looks on the red carpet”.
Toyin Abraham has gained a reputation for her innovative and extravagant fashion designs over the years.
During last year’s Christmas celebration, she decided to break away from the usual tradition of wearing pajamas for Christmas shoots and instead chose a more unique and unconventional outfit.
She created a dress and cape using 1000 peppers and 70 mops. Toyin explained that her outfit was inspired by the challenges she had faced throughout the year, which prompted her to put extra thought into her annual Christmas shoot.
Her outfit received mixed reactions online, with some praising her creativity and others criticizing it.
In response to the criticism, Toyin confidently asserted herself as the King of Fashion and told her detractors to “jump off a cliff,” emphasizing that fashion often involves sacrifice.
Few months prior, fans of Toyin Lawani had praised her after American rapper Cardi B’s daughter, Kulture, wore one of her outfits.
Toyin, overwhelmed with joy, shared a video of the 5-year-old wearing a hand-painted jacket designed by her and expressed her excitement at being recognized internationally, particularly by a celebrity like Cardi B.
