Yobe govt dismiss LG caretaker committe ahead of polls

As the elections for the local government areas (LGAs) approach, Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has given approval for the dissolution of the state’s 17 caretaker management committees.

The dissolution was detailed in a statement sent to journalists on Wednesday in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state, by Baba Mala Wali, the Secretary to the State Government.

The statement said that the dissolution will take effect on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

As a result, the directors of personnel management (DPMs) of each local government area have been instructed to take over from the outgoing chairman of the caretaker management committees.

After the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) delayed the local government to May 25, 2024, the tenure of the departing council chairmen was extended by six months. Their term had expired on November 25, 2023.

Aspirants hoping to run in the upcoming LG election have reportedly started selecting candidacy and declaration of interest papers from state political groups.
