A 14-year-old girl reportedly shot dead a classmate and injured five others before killing herself at a secondary school in the Russian city of Bryansk near the Ukraine border.
Wakadaily learnt that the tragic incident happened on Thursday.
The Russia’s Investigative Committee in a statement said, “A 14-year-old girl brought a pump-action shotgun to school, which she used to shoot her classmates,” Russia’s Investigative Committee said in a statement.
“As a result, two people died — one of them the shooter — and there are five wounded,” it added.
The injured victims were rushed to hospital, with one boy – reported to be in a serious condition in intensive care.
The shooting took place in Bryansk’s Gymnasium Number Five, a secondary school in the city’s suburbs.
Footage filmed by schoolchildren and shared by Russian state media showed photo of the school girl, sprawled on the floor next to a pool of blood and a shotgun, dressed all in black.
It said she was also armed with a hunting knife.
“The motives behind the crime and all the circumstances are being established,” the Instigative Committee, which probes major crimes, said.
The girl’s father had been taken in for questioning and the family’s apartment was searched.
Russia has strict gun restrictions, so school shootings are relatively uncommon there, but in recent years, fatal attacks at educational facilities have increased.
Following previous attacks, the Kremlin and Moscow authorities expressed increasing worry, with President Vladimir Putin blaming the incidents on US imports.
