At least 27 lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly have dumped the People’s Democratic Party, PDP for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The PDP lawmakers announced their decision to decamp during Monday’s plenary at the Rivers Assembly complex around 8am.
The lawmakers were those under the leadership of the Speaker, Martin Amaehwule.
It was gathered that the lawmakers are loyal to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
The defectors cited division within the PDP as the primary reason for crossing to the APC.
The lawmakers led by Martin Amaewhule had initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, but the move failed.
Amaehwule claimed that the decision of 27 lawmakers is borne out of the desire to serve the state better.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has summoned an emergency executive council meeting.
