No fewer than four people has been confirmed death, while six sustained injuries in a mass shooting at a landmark biker bar in Trabuco Canyon in Orange County (in southern California).
The sad incident happened on Wednesday night, law enforcement sources revealed on Thursday.
The gunman was a retired Ventura County law enforcement officer, according to two sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The anonymous report said up to five people may have died in the shooting, adding that the gunman was looking for his estranged wife.
It is unclear whether the shooter followed her to the location before opening fire on the crowd. The source noted that there is no longer an active threat.
The state Senator Dave Min, an Irvine Democrat in a statement said: “I’m heartbroken by the news of yet another mass shooting tonight, this time at Cook’s Corner, a historic bar in the heart of Orange County.
“My heart breaks for the families and loved ones of the victims.”
According to a Time report, Cook’s Corner was named after Andrew Jackson Cook, who got about 190 acres of Aliso Canyon in a land trade in 1884.
His son, Earl Jack E.J. Cook, opened a roadside hamburger joint in 1931.
