Lagos Reps rerun: It’s a miracle to get another chance – Banky W

Popular singer turned politician, Bankole Wellington, better known as Banky W has expressed his appreciation for the ruling of the Election Petitions Tribunal ordering a rerun in the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State.

Recall that the Labour Party candidate, Thaddeus Attah polled 24,075 votes, beating his counterparts, Olubankole Wellington (Banky W) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had 18,666 votes, and Babajide Obanikoro of the APC, who had 16, 901 votes respectively.

Following the results of the election, Banky and the APC candidate filled Petitions challenging Attah’s victory.

However, in a late night judgment delivered on Monday, the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, ruled that the elections were inconclusive and ordered INEC to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days in all polling units where voting did not take place.

Reacting to this in his recent appearance on Channel Television, Banky W says its a miracle to get a second chance.

The 42-year-old said, “For me personally, it’s a miracle in and of itself that we get another chance to finish the election.

“I think it’s a testament to the power of perseverance, the power of faith, and the collective will of the people who want to participate in the rebuilding of this democracy.

“People were really frustrated that they didn’t get a chance to participate in that election. And I think that that’s important.

It’s an important thing for our democracy that people are not prevented from exercising their constitutional rights to participate in an election.”

Banky W stated that over 30 polling units with “almost 30,000 voters” were prevented from exercising their franchise.

“I am particularly grateful that the court decided that every vote deserves to be counted and every voice deserves to be heard, regardless of who you’re voting for,” he added.
