A claim of corruption may cause LP to collapse – Chieftain

A chieftain of the Labour Party, Mr. Faduri Oluwadare Joseph has stated outrightly and warned that claims of corruption may cause the party to collapse.

This was a reaction to the corruption allegations against the Party National Chairman, Mr. Julius Abure.

Following a call from the Party’s National Treasurer, Oluchi Okpara in a press conference on Monday, challenged Mr. Abure to account for the alleged 3.5billion Naira derived from the sales of nomination form during the 2023 general election and a fundraising activity.

Executives of Labour Party unanimously issued a Six-month suspension to Okpara for neglecting an invitation to a probe hearing and going ahead to ridicule the Party’s integrity.

Abure whom as well had challenged the Party National Treasurer Oluchi Okpara, to show proof backing her 3.5billion Naira allegations against him.

Joseph, a presidential spirant of Labour Party in the  2023 election, called the accusations of corruption disheartening and would only bring about the Party’s downfall.

The claims of embezzlement of presidential campaign finances, according to Joseph, who also is the national chairman of the Rescue Movement for New Nigeria, were detrimental to the party.

This was made known in a statement by the National Director, Media and Publicity of Rescue Movement for New Nigeria, Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba, released to newsmen in Kaduna State on Friday.

He stated, “The Labour Party, once seen as a beacon of hope for rescuing the country, is now embroiled in massive corruption allegations and financial mismanagement, as evidenced by the presidential campaign fund records released by Peter Obi. Therefore, the Labour Party itself now requires rescue.”

“The issue of repeated financial mismanagement, embezzlement, forgery, and other allegations of corruption allegedly against Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, is so terrible and should not be swept under the carpet.

“However, that will be a discussion for another day. But I will call on the appropriate government authority to carry out a proper investigation into the monumental allegations and ensure justice is done.

“There are pertinent questions begging for answers such as how sensible is it that N744.5 million was claimed to have been spent for legal fees for the election petition tribunal when the amount said to have been spent on running the whole election is less than half of that?

“We are aware of some lawyers that offered services for Labour Party pro bono, then how did what was spent on the presidential election petition amount to that?.”
