Lagos partners stakeholders on zero carbon emissions

The Lagos State Government has revealed its plans to work with stakeholders to achieve their aims on Zero-Carbon Lagos by 2055.

The special adviser on Climate change and Circular Economy, Titilayo Oshodi revealed this on Monday during the inaugural stakeholders meeting

On behalf of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the State Commissioner ministry Economy planning and budget, Mosopefolu George, noted that the climate change and the need for a circular economy was key as they are present realities that demand immediate and decisive action.

From the news gathered, Sanwo-Olu says the challenges posed by the climate change should be addressed in partnership with donor organisations to cut across the waste, transportation, and energy sectors.

Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos was not immune to these challenges, “because we are a coastal city and one of the most immediate impacts of climate change is sea-level rise, we are witnessing the increasing impacts of climate change, from extreme weather events to resource scarcity and pollution.”

He stressed that the state has the opportunity to tackle these challenges and unlock a more sustainable and prosperous future for Lagos.

The state governor said that by accommodating the circular economy, the state can move away from the traditional ‘take-make-dispose’ model to a system that maximises resource efficiency that minimizes waste, and promotes environmental responsibility.”

However, this inaugural stakeholders’ session is a testament to our recognition of the need for collective action to achieve the desired outcome.

By working together, we can unlock the immense potential of the circular economy, create a more resilient and competitive city, and ensure a brighter future for generations to come,” he added.
