The 2023 Supplementary Appropriations Act has been revised by the House of Representatives to permit a delay in the commencement of capital projects.

During an expedited hearing on Wednesday, the House made amendments to the Act that postponed the implementation of the capital components until June 30.

Majority Leader Rep. Usman Kumu (APC-Gombe), who introduced the bill, stated that President Bola Tinubu’s request prompted it to be amended.

He said that it was in the nation’s best interests to request an extension of the budget’s implementation date.

Kumo urged the parliamentarians to approve the bill, saying that it was necessary for the country’s effective governance.

Following its challenging first and second readings, the bill was examined by the Committee of Supply before being approved for a third reading.

In order to allow for a delay in the completion of capital projects, Tinubu had requested that the 2023 Appropriations Act be amended by the National Assembly.

Rep. Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker, received a letter from Tinubu on Wednesday requesting that the house extend the implementation date from March 31 to June 30.

The president asked the house to move decisively on the amendment so that ongoing projects can be completed. The letter was read aloud by the speaker on the house floor.
