Motor accident in anambra claims one life, leaves two injured

Along the Onitsha-Asaba bridgehead, an articulated vehicle crashed into pedestrians, resulting in the death of an unidentified female and the injuries of two other people.

Information about the accident revealed that it occurred on Thursday and that brake failure was the cause of the incident.

When the driver lost control of the car while descending the River Niger bridge on the way to Asaba, an eyewitness claimed, he crashed into pedestrians at the side of the road.

The collision was verified by C. A. Iyiegbuniwe, Staff Officer, Public Education, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra.

Iyiegbuniwe said, “The crash occurred today, April 4. 2024 at about 3:20hrs of the day along Onitsha-Asaba Bridgehead

“It involved an articulated white and green Mercedes Benz vehicle with registration number NKE25LG.

“The vehicle had a brake failure and rammed into people. Two persons were injured and one female was killed.

“On arrival at the scene, FRSC men took the two injured persons to Toronto Hospital, Onitsha, while the dead were taken to Toronto Mortuary.”

Iyiegbuniwe reported that Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander RS5.3 Awka, expressed sympathy to the victims’ families.

He was also cited as counseling drivers to keep their cars in good working order and obey traffic laws.
