Troops comb forests as terrorists kill lieutenant in Borno

In Borno State, the Defence Headquarters, said a Lieutenant of the Nigerian Army was killed, while four other soldiers were wounded during a shootout with terrorists, on Sunday.

It was said that the terrorist laid an ambush which resulted to a serious gun battle with the troops of Operation Hadin Kai.

As claimed by the statement of the Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Buba Edward, four military personnel were wounded during the operation.

The Director said that the wounded persons were receiving treatment in an unnamed hospital.

He also said troops recovered five AK-47 rifles and 103 rounds of the 7. 62mm special ammunition from the terrorists.

He added that troops were on the search for the remaining terrorists who laid ambushed for them.

The statement read, “On April 5, 2024, at about 0935hrs, troops of Operation Hadin Kai encountered a terrorist ambush along the Buratai-Buni Gari Road. Sadly, during the encounter, the troops lost a Lieutenant, who was killed in action while four personnel were wounded in action and are receiving treatment.

“Troops reinforcement pursued the terrorist to their hideout within the Timbuktu Triangle and made contact. Troops neutralised six of the terrorists recovering five AK-47 rifles and 103 rounds of the 7. 62mm special ammunition. The remaining terrorists ran in disarray.

“However, troops are in hunt of the remnant terrorist that fled the firefight.”

It was reported that the military recently lost 17 people who went on a peacekeeping mission in Delta State
