Residents of Anambra State frowned at prolonged public holidays

Anambra residents has expressed dissatisfaction at the additional day authorized by the federal government for the Muslim celebration, stating that this will bring negative effects to the economy.

Earlier the Federal Government had announced April 9 and 10 for the Muslim Ummah and also for the successful completion of one month spiritual rejuvenation.

In the events of the crescent moon not being spotted, April 11 was further added to the holiday.

However, residents of the Anambra’s capital city, Awka believed that the additional day which they did not plan for will result in economic hardship for the citizen.

Some of the residents who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria, believe that people had planned to resume their economic activities instead of wasting their time staying at home doing nothing.

Felly Akosa, Ex Chairman of Awka Chamber of Commerce, described the additional day to the two days approved earlier as “unfair to the economy of the country as people were unprepared for the additional day.”
