Cleric urgers FG to assist in cutting down the prices of food items

The national Ameer of Daaru-r-Rahmat Islamic Society, Sheikh Musibau-deen Olawale, urged that the federal and state governments come up with strategies to lower the cost of food in the nation.

This action is required to demonstrate relief on the naira to dollar exchange rates, the cleric stated in his Eid-el-Fitr address.

Olawale noted that, “The prevalent economic situation occasioned by astronomical hikes in the prices of foodstuffs across the country has continued to take a toll on the livelihood of all the Nigerians.

“The development is so devastating that it is very hard for the people to meet their three daily meals and this has affected the health growth of the populace.

“And with the improvement in Nigeria’s naira as against dollars, I am appealing to the federal and state governments to work together on this and ensure that the prices of foodstuffs stabilize to enable the people to have access to food,” he said.

Noting that the teachings of Ramadan continue to be a spark for a great nation, he urged Muslims to allow the lessons learned from the fast to inform their behavior and attitudes.

He said that, “Islam advocates accountability, sincerity, and support of one another and tasks an individual with good deeds in an effort to reduce hunger and poverty in the society.”
