VC asks students to focus on vocational studies

In an act to foster development in the educational sector, Prof. Olufemi Adeoluwa, the Vice-Chancellor, Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti, has asked the students of the varsity to take advantage of the school’s peculiarity to prepare for better lives and future.

Adeoluwa, said BOUESTI was peculiar for its focus on entrepreneurship and vocational studies to make the best of the students, charged them to “Use your education to make a positive impact and contribute meaningfully to the society. Each of you has the potential to be a catalyst for progress and transformation.

On Friday, he disclosed this in Ikere Ekiti during the matriculation ceremony for 5,094 new students for 2023/2024 session.

He charged the freshers to be active in all aspects of university life whether through academic pursuit, extra-curricular activities or community engagement as he advised them against crime and social vices on campus, saying the institution had zero-tolerance to negative acts and tendencies.

According to the school authority, the school had a vision for the students to be different from their peers, hence its stance, adding, “Our university is peculiar because we focus on entrepreneurship and vocational studies.

Then our instructional delivery system is different. We focus on what students can do with whatever things they learn in any of the conventional programmes to make money for themselves. That is also the reason, at the 200 level, all students have a compulsory practical agricultural course that they have to do on the farm.

We focus on our entrepreneurship programme, we focus on practical skills and we make sure we have workshops for a lot of them to produce what they have to produce the shoes and laptop bags. We encourage them to do whatever it is they are innovative at. We encourage them on skills and crafts to make money,” the VC said
