Tinubu declares April 7 National police day

April 7 is now officially recognized as National Police Day by President Bola Tinubu.

President Tinubu made the statement on Monday at the Nigeria Police Force (NPF)’s inaugural awards and commendations ceremony in Abuja.

At the event, President Tinubu who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, spoke about the importance of the police in preserving security at a time when Nigeria is facing previously unheard-of difficulties in a speech titled “Courage Under Fire: A Bouquet for Our Police Force.”

“At a time in Nigeria’s history when our nation’s security architecture is being stretched beyond elastic limits, it is the unwavering commitment of our police force that has allowed our citizens to endure despite severe threats to their lives and livelihoods,” Shettima stated.

The Vice President went into further detail on the administration’s plans to modernize the Nigerian Police Force.

“We are unequivocal about our resolve to transform the Nigeria Police Force into a modern, professional, and accountable institution that mirrors the aspirations and values of our nation,” he affirmed.

The government is investing heavily on training and capacity building as part of its overall reforms. The goal of this program is to provide police officers with the fundamental knowledge, abilities, morals, and experience required to successfully handle the intricacies of contemporary policing.

To improve the force’s operational effectiveness and efficiency, there will also be a technological and equipment update.

The establishment of National Police Day is regarded as a first step in honoring and recognizing the courageous officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for their commitment to national security.
