‘He didn’t commit capital offense’ – NCoS refutes allegations that Bobrisky has been transferred to Kirikiri prison

The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has denied rumors that crossdresser Bobrisky was transferred from Ikoyi Correctional Center to Kirikiri Prison.

It was previously reported that Bobrisky had been quietly moved to Kirikiri prison after being sentenced last week.

However, an anonymous NCoS official stated that Bobrisky is still being held in Ikoyi prison.

The official explained that Bobrisky’s offense does not warrant his transfer to a maximum security prison where inmates serving life and death sentences are typically held.

“Bobrisky has not been moved, he is still here in Ikoyi. He was not sentenced to death and didn’t get a life sentence either. Those people sentenced to death and given life sentences are mostly kept in the maximum prison. That is mostly based on capital punishment. As for Bobrisky, he didn’t commit a capital offense, so why would they take him to Kirikiri,” the source explain.

A different official, who requested to remain anonymous, stated that there were intentions to transfer certain prisoners between the state’s custodial centers. However, this plan is still under consideration and its purpose is to alleviate overcrowding.

“Sometimes, when we discover that the population of inmates is much in a facility, we decide to move them just to decongest. We are only considering that at the moment and not that anyone has been moved. If the prison authorities want to move, they have the right. We also do so if the person has a communicable disease or because the inmate requested it for proximity to the family or an appeal on humanitarian grounds.

“The leadership might also say, ‘Let’s spread those who have less than one year sentence’, which may apply to Bobrisky, just to create space for those awaiting trial. But such people rarely go to the maximum prison,” the source said.

Earlier this month, Bobrisky was arrested by the EFCC for misusing Naira. He appeared in court in Lagos, where he admitted his guilt and asked the judge for another chance. He promised to use his social media platforms to educate his followers about not misusing Naira.

Unfortunately, the judge did not forgive his actions and sentenced him to 6 months in jail at Ikoyi Correctional Center.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) stated that Bobrisky would be placed in the male section of the facility since he identified himself as male during questioning in court.

Despite concerns about his safety due to his gender identity, correctional officers assured the public that Bobrisky would be protected from potential harm.

In a recent update, the NCoS announced that after a thorough examination, it was determined that there was no evidence of gender reassignment or changes to Bobrisky’s male biological characteristics.
