Lagos market destroyed with fire by hoodlums

On Thursday, a local market in the Ile-Epo area of Lagos State experienced an altercation between some thugs that resulted in serious injuries and extensive property damage.

The conflict, which started on Wednesday night and lasted till Thursday morning without interruption, culminated in the destruction of many stores and items by the rival thugs.

Eyewitnesses reported that the clash suddenly turned violent, with groups setting several stores on fire. It was a chaotic situation.

There were flames all around, and the only sounds you could hear were screaming and glass breaking, according to a market vendor who asked to stay nameless out of concern for their safety.

There was opposition to police attempts to put an end to the disturbances. A Lagos State Police spokeswoman said, “Our team was dispatched promptly, but our intervention efforts were hampered by the mob’s intensity and hostility.” The cops promised to restore order as they looked into what started the altercation.

Emergency services also encountered significant challenges. A angry mob battered a Lagos State Fire Service truck with stones, forcing it to retreat. A firefighter at the scene said, “We tried to get to the scene to put out the flames, but it got too dangerous for us to stay.”

In order to stop the situation from getting worse, authorities have pledged to bolster security in the region while they evaluate the extent of the damage. While cleanup and investigation work continue, the market will remain closed until further notice.
