LASG to tackle flood on Lagos-Badagry Expressway

The Lagos State Government has directed the Emergency Flood Abatement Gang of the state Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources to address the flood on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

This move was due to the complaints made by an X user @Toyosiomoba on a recent flooding that ravaged the road.

In a clip video posted by the user, vehicles were seen maneuvering on the road as flood took over a long section of the expressway.

“The video attached is the current situation of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway immediately after Trade Fair under-bridge inwards Mile 2. Please use your good office to find a lasting solution to this flood on this particular section of the road,” the user tweeted at the Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, on Tuesday.

While responding, he however, blamed the flooding on blockage on the road.

“Our findings on this road, Lagos-Badagry Expressway by Trade Fair under-bridge, is that the point is at what appears to be the lowest point in this section (i.e. around the Trade Fair between Abule Ado and Abulejika), hence, the water is not flowing within the section due to blockage.

“The Emergency Flood Abatement Gang of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources has been deployed there to commence an immediate cleaning of the drains to allow free flow of the rainwater,” Wahab wrote.

Flooding has been a major challenge in Lagos during the rainy season with the government consistently warning residents against indiscriminate dumping of waste to prevent drainage blockage.
