NASS open to collaboration with ICAN, others, says lawmaker

Austin Akobundu, the Senator representing Abia Central, said the National Assembly was open to partner with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and other professional bodies in the country.

He revealed this on Saturday at an event to celebrate Davidson Alaribe, the 60th president of ICAN.

He said, “It is noteworthy that ICAN has championed accountability and transparency in Nigeria for over 59 years and the impact this institute has made in Nigeria’s history remains indelible. I particularly extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Diamond President, Davidson Alaribe.

Let me further assure you that the National Assembly will continue to collaborate with professional bodies, like ICAN, in our unrelenting commitment to promote good governance, accountability, and transparency in the Nigerian political system. As you assume the leadership of this Institute as its 60th President, we are hopeful for a more robust relationship with the National Assembly as ICAN members’ expertise in promoting prudence and a good financial management system is critical for our collective development even in the face of the socio-economic challenges we are facing as a nation.”

Akobundu described him as a seasoned professional and ambassador of Awanukwu, in the Oloko community of Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, where he hails from.

Your ascension to this esteemed position is a testament to your unwavering spirit of service and hard work that characterises the great people of Abia State.”

Alaribe was sworn in as the 60th president of ICAN in June in Lagos.

During his Investiture, Alaribe said the theme of his presidential year would be ‘Upholding ICAN’s Legacies’ by deepening the professionalism, accountability and transparency that had been the modus operandi of ICAN.
