Task force impounds 105 motorcycles plying highways

Over 105 illegal commercial motorcycle were seized in a raid on Tuesday by the Lagos State Task Force, along Iyana-Iba Road, Badagry Expressway, Igboelerin and Alakija.

The Lagos State Taskforce is amplifying its enforcement actions to eradicate the illegal operation of commercial motorcycles, commonly referred to as “Okada,” on major highways and restricted routes in the state. This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure safer roads and reduce incidents related to unlawful Okada operations.

Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the Task Force spokesperson, said the agency was all out to enforce the ban on the activities of Okada operators on all the major highways and restricted routes in the state.

Today, the agency raided Iyana-Iba Road, Badagry Expressway, Igboelerin and Alakija where Okada operators have continually operated despite the ban.

According to the agency’s chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, more enforcement for compliance activities is ongoing to completely rid the axis of their activities,” he said in a statement.

In April, the agency clamped down on commercial motorcycles and squatters who erected shanties along the rail tracks in the Fagba area of the state.

359 bikes were seized and several shanties demolished in the follow-up exercise after the launch of the Red Line Rail project, the agency said.
