Fast-rising Nigeria female musician, Ayra Starr calls out Headies Award for not awarding the best female artist category on stage.
The 2023, Headies Award took place at the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta Georgia, and had in attendance many stakeholders in the music industry to celebrate Nigerian music.
Ayra Star who beat the likes of Tiwa Savage, Simi and Tems to win the best female artists award is not pleased that the organizers of the award did not present her award on the stage like that of the best male artist category winner.
She took to her X handle to share her sentiment after the show.
The singer stated that she would not be grateful for winning an award that wasn’t deemed fit to be presented on stage, after headies failed to present the award to her at the show.
She wrote, “I will never be grateful for winning a category that wasn’t even deemed fit to be announced on stage! Best female artist na beans? We work hard, every single one of us! I’ve seen Tiwa record 4 hit songs in the same night, Tems breaths and lives for music, we didn’t deserve such nonchalance! Nigeria, you didn’t raise me to settle for less.”
Some viewers of the show have also label the move not to present the female award on stage as disrespectful to the female artist of the industry and Ayra Starr’s tweet echoes this sentiment.
